It would not be false to say that the world at large is 'shocked' at the willingness of a Muslim extremist to shed their own blood in the attempt to destroy another life. The collective, global non-Islamic consciousness is amazed that someone would raise their child from birth to passionately accept the way of jihad and bewildered that a culture would have such disdain for human life man, woman and child alike. We gasp at the tactics used by this religion in waging war against the 'infidel', especially when we hear stories of the disabled and mentally retarded being strapped with a bomb and carted into the middle of 'the enemy' as bait for their booby-trap. While it pains me that this is even possible - that mankind would use his brother or sister, even his children, to kill another...or that the 'another' would be a target of this hate and that the destruction of this 'another' would bring joy to the hardened heart of any human...the real question is: why are we surprised? Can we as a culture really claim to be morally superior? In fact we just might be worse than they are. Let us reason together.
Though in the Old Testament their were laws that required the death of certain Jews who refused to keep these laws, in the New Testament the Lord provides in His word only one legitimate reason to cause the death of another purposeful, premeditated murder out of blood-lust. One might look to the OT to claim, those that follow this God (who is the only True God) must agree, then, that it's O.K. to kill their own child if they stray from the faith. While this was true in the time of Moses even up until Christ, it was specifically for the Jewish people and only to keep the Hebrew nation 'clean' and set apart for YHWH. After Christ, the whole of mankind was deemed by the Lord as being worthy of salvation through the innocent blood of Jesus, by grace through faith. In this new dispensation, this old law has been done away with and can therefore not be called up as a reason to try to discredit the call of a Christian to hold life as the most precious resource on earth. And, again, even if this old law were still 'in effect' who are we to claim moral superiority?
In the OT, to 'turn from the faith' was not quite so simple as just denying God. Today, we read this as a kid who is simply an Atheist. This attribute only scratching the surface of the implication of one labeled with this moniker. During the OT times, this description would have been applied to a person, most likely a teen aged 'child', who acted out in immoral ways such as rape, thievery or murder, who was not respectful for authority (his own parents or the civil authority) who would entice peers to join in their immoral and unlawful behavior, and become a great civil and religious burden on the Hebrew nation. Today, these attributes might be seen in a 'child' who is a member of a violent gang of thugs who sell harmful drugs, who beat and even kill other humans or animals for amusement, who rape and plunder their victims and who have no respect for any authority and are a burden on our society in numerous ways. Because allowing this behavior to take root - and not decisively dealing with it - is tantamount to sanctioning it, over time the acceptance of this immorality will destroy a nation and it's culture. Just walk the streets of any major city in America and you will see the results.
When we've come to the place in our society that we even have to debate the question of ending unborn life, we have already slipped completely off the the proverbial 'slippery slope' and our nation is heading into perdition. Our Christian forefathers would have never sanctioned a constitution allowing for the execution of child in the womb for whom they gave their very life's blood to ensure someday they would have freedom. When does murder equal freedom? How, then, does this differ from the 'honor of dying a martyr' for a child of militant Muslims who raise their children to hate other religions and die in the fight against the 'enemies of Allah'? The only difference is the choice of weapon. A scalpel versus a bomb-vest, a feeding tube over a dirty nuke.. The result is the same. To be honest, there may be more honor, no matter how misguided and detestable the act, in dying for a cause you believe is protecting your children from evil than in sacrificing your children under the guise of 'health issues' or 'freedom of choice' that's simply a sacrifice of one life for another the blood of an infant for perceived greater happiness...either in not being financially and socially burdened by the raising of a child or just an outright disregard for human life.
Since the state sanctioned murder by starvation and dehydration of Theresa Marie Schindler "Terri" Schiavo by her husband, several other cases have arisen that are closely related and that carry with them grave consequences for our nation if we continue to allow the extermination of human life because of our hard-heartedness. It is no little known fact that Hitler, in the beginning of his influence over the German people, began convincing his citizens that the elderly, malformed, sickly, weak and invalid alike didn't deserve the pain and humiliation of their 'less than acceptable' lives nor should they have to endure this suffering. Shortly thereafter the Darwinian (though self-proclaimed Christian) Hitler persuaded his countrymen that they should cleanse their country of the imperfect non-Germans, believing the Aryan race to be more evolved.
The Lord gives life and the wages of sin is death. There is no way to misconstrue these principles when taking the Bible as the literal Word of God. While a majority of unbelieving persons would ask, how, then, can the death penalty be reconciled with your Christian convictions, the answer is simple and Scriptural; the taking of life through 'blood-lust' or the execution a living human, in or out of the womb, with the intent for gain, whether it's with the expectation of personal happiness, for filthy lucre's sake, in wrathfulness and hate, or any reason that is rooted in selfishness...is murder. However, the Lord commands life for life as penalty for one who commits such evil. This can be a sticking point for many non-believer's and for a few Christians, but taking life from one who is a danger to society is not murder even though it is technically called killing. The latter is in the sense of the taking of innocent life, while the former is strictly for punishment of the gravest of crimes, also known as justice.
Finally, let there be no mistaking the character of God. There is no difference between a robbery suspect mowing down innocent bystanders in a convenient store hold up, Hitler's execution of millions of Jews, the conspirators of 9/11 along with Osama bin Laden's bent on destruction, burning and grinding to powder over three thousand unknowing and unarmed private citizens in hundreds of thousands of tons of concrete and steel, the suicide bomber who detonates his cache of kaboom in an orphanage in Jerusalem or a market in Moscow, the drunk driver who should have lost his keys, the serial killer, the enraged lover, the abusive husband that finally hits too hard, too many times, the doctor who removes a feeding tube and water, starving and dehydrating a human to death or each independent judge that sanctions such an act, the physician staff at the 'family planning' clinic, the mother and even those that are supporters, financially or otherwise - in the abortion of an unborn baby. Murder is murder...the ending of innocent life, in sacrifice for self. Every one of us is complicit in my homeland. All of our hands are covered in the blood of a lost generation of children my countrymen and me. We are destined for judgment similarly to Isaiah 1:9b, but our nation faces a worse fate than Israel's dispersion and she may not see a remnant remain, changing the passage to we will become like Sodom. Destruction is the destiny of Mystery Babylon and we're resembling this Biblical empire more and more every day.
We Christians should pray for those caught in the dark dungeon of Islam. Let's not hold up our noses at Muslim martyrdom as the priest who prayed saying, God, thank you that I'm not a sinner as that tax collector, since we are no better in our allowing 'the right to die' and 'the right to choose' to be more acceptable than the 'choice to fight' and the 'right to life'. As children of God through Jesus Christ, we must not remain silent. Moreover, we who call on the name of Yeshua Ha'Moshiach the Messiah of God must remain in steadfast prayer for our neighbors, our leaders and our nation. Islam will be judged and so will America. For readers who may not be believers, someday you absolutely will be I only pray it's before you have breathed your last.
